The Journey from Canada to the Pacific Northwest

He was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1966. He relocated to the United States in 1975 when his father accepted a key position with Wright Schuchart Engineering in Seattle, Washington. Influenced by his father's engineering career, he developed a strong affinity for the construction and engineering sectors from a young age.

On the Ice from an Early Age

From childhood, he was actively engaged in hockey, playing in the United States Hockey League and Junior A and briefly at Iowa State University. Although short, his stint at Iowa State did not diminish his passion for competitive sports, a zeal that continues to influence him. He later graduated from Seattle University with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and Humanities.

From University to His First Job

After university, he began his career as an auditor for a pension fund, where he met his future wife, Marnie. His career path soon veered back towards his primary interest—construction, landing him a position as a project engineer with Sverdrup Engineering. There, he notably contributed to the expansion of Concourse D at SeaTac airport, honing his skills in project management.

His Career Path with JH Kelly

He commenced his tenure at JH Kelly as a Field Engineer in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he managed pivotal infrastructure projects, including constructing a sulfur recovery unit in Montana. His journey through the company ranks brought him significant roles in business development and promoted him to Business Development Manager and, subsequently, Director of Marketing and Business Development.

In 1999, he briefly pursued an opportunity with a service contractor in San Diego, further developing his leadership and sales management skills. He returned to JH Kelly four years later as Vice President, revitalized and eager to contribute to the company's continued growth.
